Clinical significance
1. Infection
For healthy individuals, this test evaluates the occurrence and severity of infections. Elevated sTREM-1 levels are commonly associated with bacterial meningitis, bacterial pleural effusion, and infections in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Source: 'Interpretation of the Clinical Significance of Infection-Related Biomarkers Expert Consensus.
2. Sepsis
The expression of soluble inflammatory factors is correlated with the severity of sepsis and is also associated with adverse patient outcomes. Serum and urine levels of sTREM-1 may have higher sensitivity for the early diagnosis of sepsis compared to white blood cell count (WBC), C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT). Source: 'Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Immune Suppression in Sepsis 2020.
3. HLH
A sCD25 level ≥ 6400 pg/ml is one of the diagnostic criteria for HLH, and a reduction of more than one-third in sCD25 levels serves as an indicator for treatment assessment. Persistent high expression is associated with the progression and poor prognosis of HLH. Source: 'Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis in China 2022.
4. Cardiovascular diseases
In patients with in-stent restenosis (ISR), sTREM-1 levels significantly increase. Elevated sCD40L is associated with the progression and prognosis of atherosclerosis. sgp130 is negatively correlated with the severity of coronary artery atherosclerosis and positively correlated with ischemic chronic systolic heart failure (HF), with high concentrations predicting fatal outcomes in chronic heart failure.
